Overview of Water for Elephants

“Many wonders await audiences in this gorgeously imaginative Broadway musical.” - The New York Times

“A dynamic tale! It elevates the musical to new and literal heights.” – Variety

The critically acclaimed bestselling novel comes to “thrilling, dazzling” life (Time Out New York) in a unique, spectacle-filled new musical! Hailed as a Critic’s Pick, The New York Times calls it “stunning, emotional, heart-filled and gorgeously imaginative.”

After losing what matters most, a young man jumps a moving train unsure of where the road will take him and finds a new home with the remarkable crew of a traveling circus, and a life—and love—beyond his wildest dreams. Seen through the eyes of his older self, his adventure becomes a poignant reminder that if you choose the ride, life can begin again at any age.

Tony Award-nominated director Jessica Stone’s “huge, heart-filling" production (The New York Times) features a book by three-time Tony nominee Rick Elice adapted from Sara Gruen’s novel, and a soaring score by the acclaimed PigPen Theatre Co.

So, step right up to the “spellbinding entertainment” (Variety) at Water for Elephants, “the best new musical on Broadway” (Theatermania).

An inside look at UC Irvine's environmentally conscious production of Bess Wohl's
dark comedy, exploring the intersection of Hollywood, climate change,
activism, and the power of theater.

Continuity

By Bess Wohl
Andrew Borba, Director

As an exhausted film crew races through magic hour to finish an artsy action blockbuster in the New Mexico desert, artistic ambition, Hollywood pressures and environmental realities collide. A darkly comic “play in six takes,” Continuity explores the power — and limits — of storytelling in a world facing an ecological crisis.

Extending those questions beyond the stage, this UC Irvine production explores a more sustainable future for the performing arts. Inspired by initiatives such as the Broadway Green Alliance, the creative team will incorporate environmentally conscious production practices, from solar power to 100% recycled materials, with the goal of creating an “environmentally neutral” production that minimizes its overall impact.

Andrew Borba Is the Head of the Graduate Acting Program at UCI. He is an accomplished actor, and director and has performed at theaters all over the country including 5 seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and many shows at South Coast Repertory Theater right here in Costa Mesa. UCI's 17th Annual Food Drive: Donate through December 11

Hunger hurts our family members, neighbors, and friends. You can make a difference in our local community by donating to UCI's Clash of the Cans food drive through Friday, December 11. Get involved by dropping off your non-perishable goods at any donation bin location on campus and at UCI Health - Orange, or by making a monetary donation to support the Orange County Food Bank and the UCI Basic Needs Center. Both organizations lead remarkable initiatives that provide essential food and personal care supplies to those in need. Your generous contributions will provide meals to impoverished Orange County families and ensure UCI students have access to essential food and basic needs resources.

Additionally, UCI Libraries will waive up to $9 in library fees for three non-perishable goods donated at the Langson Library or Science Library checkout desks. If you have questions about this offer, please visit the help desk at either location.
