multi-platinum artist Olivia Rodrigo releases “serena joy” globally, following the track’s exclusive physical debut on CD at Analog Records in Orange County, California last Friday. The one-store physical release marked the first opportunity for local fans to discover “serena joy,” just eight days ahead of Daisy Chain Fields, Rodrigo’s sold-out music festival taking place August 29th at Great Park in Irvine, California.
Written by Olivia Rodrigo and longtime collaborator Dan Nigro during the sessions for Rodrigo’s third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, “serena joy” is punk in spirit: angsty, urgent and rooted in protest energy. Its release in the lead-up to Daisy Chain Fields is especially fitting, as the festival brings together an all-women lineup of groundbreaking artists, nonprofit organizations, and a community united in support of women and girls. A portion of net proceeds from “serena joy” will be donated to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund.
The physical debut of “serena joy” at Analog Records was an ode to the festival and the Orange County community that will soon welcome it. It also continued Rodrigo’s longstanding support of independent record stores and the communities around them. Most recently, nearly 200 independent record stores nationwide hosted midnight sale events celebrating the release of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, marking the largest Record Store Day-organized midnight sale in at least a decade.
With “serena joy” available globally today, fans everywhere can listen to the new track, which Rodrigo will perform live for the first time at Daisy Chain Fields on Saturday, August 29th.

About Olivia Rodrigo
GRAMMY-award winning, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter and philanthropist Olivia Rodrigo is one of the most influential artists of today. After shattering records with her chart-topping, 6x Platinum debut album SOUR – the fastest album in history to have all of its songs certified RIAA Platinum or higher – 3x GRAMMY® Award winning singer -songwriter Olivia Rodrigo made a monumental return with her sophomore album GUTS, revealing newly heightened sophistication as a vocalist and lyricist.
Hailed by The New York Times as “a songwriter of rather astonishing purity” Rodrigo has received fourteen GRAMMY® Award nominations including nods for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year for her work on both SOUR and GUTS. She took home awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 64th GRAMMY® Awards. She was named New Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards, Woman of the Year at Billboard’s 2022 Women in Music Awards and Songwriter of the Year at both the ASCAP Pop Music Awards and Variety Hitmakers. She has also received seven Billboard Awards, a Brit, a Juno, and an NME Award while “Olivia Rodrigo: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film)” won Best Music Documentary honors at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards.
SOUR entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and would go on to become the longest-running debut album in the chart’s top 10 of the 21st century—and the first to spend an entire year in the upper echelon. SOUR also entered the charts at No. 1 in the U.K., Canada, Ireland, Norway, Holland, Sweden, Australia, and New Zealand. Upon release, SOUR scored the most U.S. audio streams for a female debut album ever and broke the record for the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist on Spotify. In 2022, she kicked off her first-ever world tour—a sold-out run that took her to upwards of 40 cities across North America and Europe.
Praised as an “instant classic” by Rolling Stone, Rodrigo’s sophomore album GUTS debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, coinciding with lead single “vampire” returning to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Rodrigo’s No. 1 ranking on the Artist 100, thereby giving her a chart triple. Rodrigo is the first female artist in nearly a decade to debut her first two albums atop the Billboard 200 and the youngest artist in Hot 100 history to debut three hits at No. 1 (“vampire” and SOUR’s “drivers license” and “good 4 u”). GUTS’ remaining 11 tracks charted in the top 40 of the Hot 100. GUTS topped the album charts in over 13 countries, including the UK.
In 2024, Rodrigo embarked on her second world tour – GUTS World Tour, which wrapped in the summer of 2025 after 100 sold-out headline shows in 64 cities across more than 21 countries. She donated a portion from her net proceeds from the GUTS World Tour to charities around the globe. The donation was distributed via Rodrigo’s Fund 4 Good – a global initiative committed to building an equitable and just future for all women and girls through direct support of community-based non-profits that champion girls’ education, support reproductive rights and prevent gender-based violence. Rodrigo was named Billboard's 2024 Touring Artist of the Year after the massive global success of her GUTS World Tour.
Before the year ended, Rodrigo achieved another career milestone with the release of her first contribution to a film soundtrack: “Can’t Catch Me Now” from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (Music From & Inspired By). The song, nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for Best Song Written For Visual Media, won a 2023 Hollywood Music In Media Award for SciFi/Fantasy Film, a 2024 SCL Award for Outstanding Original Song For A Dramatic Or Documentary Visual Media Production and was shortlisted for the 2024 Oscars.
In 2025, Rodrigo continued to tour through South America, performing at her first ever stadium in Curitiba, Brazil. Dominating the festival circuit, Rodrigo performed at Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City, bringing generations together with special guests such as David Byrne. Rodrigo made history as the second youngest person ever to headline Glastonbury, bringing out iconic special guest Robert Smith of The Cure. Rodrigo also released LIVE FROM GLASTONBURY (A BBC RECORDING), an album that captures her headline set from the renowned UK festival. After officially wrapping her GUTS world tour in the summer, Rodrigo joined forces with Feist for a stripped-back acoustic performance of "We're Going to Be Friends" to honor The White Stripes at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony that Fall.
With over 37 million albums sold globally to date, Rodrigo released her third studio album this June, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, to critical acclaim, becoming the biggest solo debut of 2026, with 485,000 units sold in the first week. Rodrigo became the first artist ever to debut each of their first 3 lead singles at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and first 3 albums at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love also going #1 in 17 countries. The new album marks the biggest debut by a solo act so far this year, and now Rodrigo’s entire discography has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, each new album outselling the last.
Rodrigo is set to kick off her massive sold out The Unraveled Tour in September, quickly selling out globally with over 1 million tickets sold, added stops due to demand, and breaking several venue records. The tour was originally announced with four dates in Brooklyn and quickly expanded to a massive 10-show residency at Barclays Center. Rodrigo also set the venue performance record at Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome, bringing the total to an historic 10 dates, establishing a new venue benchmark. At London’s O2 with 11 nights set to perform, Rodrigo joins an elite group of artists who have reached double-digit residencies at the venue including Prince, The Spice Girls, One Direction, Ariana Grande, Elton John, and Rihanna.
Not stopping there, Rodrigo announced her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival, a new music festival bringing together women in music to support and uplift women and girls. The festival will celebrate the power of collective experiences to inspire new ideas, deepen understanding, and drive action. Taking place August 29 at Great Park in Irvine, California, the single-day event will bring together an all-women lineup of groundbreaking artists, women- and girls-focused nonprofit organizations, and a community rooted in creativity, connection, and collective impact. Net proceeds from the festival will benefit non-profit organizations dedicated to advancing and advocating for women and girls through the Daisy Chain Fields Fund.
