April 13, 2020 @9:15am - author Rob Harrell joins Janeane on KUCI 88.9fm to talk about his latest book, WINK

LISTEN to today's conversation with Rob Harrell!

Based on Rob's own cancer battle, WINK offers support for kids everywhere dealing with illness and trying to get by. WINK is an unforgettable novel that readers can’t afford to miss.

Ross Maloy wants nothing more than to be a normal seventh grader. He doesn’t want to lose his hair, or wear a weird hat, or deal with the disappearing friends who don’t know what to say to “the cancer kid.” But with his recent diagnosis of a rare eye cancer, blending in is off the table. Based on Rob Harrell’s own experience with eye cancer (at the time, only the 25th diagnosis of its kind), this personal novel is an illustration that there are still beautiful things to gain in the face of incredible loss.

Ross handles his life-threatening illness—including the painful and often embarrassing treatment that comes with it—and classmates’ heartbreakingly cruel jokes about him with endearing sarcasm and humor. Told with wit, charm, and the hilarious comics of Ross’ superhero character Batpig, WINK is an unforgettable story of unexpected friendships, the importance of family, and an enduring hope that things can get better.
