Drummer, wife and mother of six -- the incredibly driven and inspirational Laura Spern joins me Monday!

to be a great drummer!"

ABOUT LAURA SPERN
After playing the video game 'Rockband' for several months I decided to rock-for-real! In July 2008, at the age of 47, I got my first drum kit. A Ludwig CS Accent Custom 5-piece in wine color. To that I added Zildjian K Custom Dark ride and crash cymbals and a DW 9000 bass pedal.

I got down to business right away with weekly drum lessons and daily practice. Six short months later I did what I never thought I could ever do, I joined a band. It was a local mom-band 'The Mydols'. Founder Judy Davids offered me unconditional support and encouragement.

The two years I played with The Mydols were filled with many local gigs. It took me over 20 gigs to get most of the pre-show butterflies to settle down! In addition to all the local gigs I also had a couple of unique opportunities with the band. In September, 2009 we filmed for 5 days with Gene Simmons and appeared on his reality TV show, 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels'. (Season 5- Detroit Rock Mommies) Then a year later, in September 2010 we opened for The B-52's at Motor City Casino Hotel Soundboard. Both were unbelievable experiences for me!

I've recently been offered a drum endorsement from 'Final Cry Custom Drums' a Christian custom drum company down in Texas. I look forward to receiving my new drum kit soon!

Currently I'm in a cover band with some great friends of mine. I continue to practice 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day, 4 days a week, uploading drum cover videos as I can. There is so much to learn and so little time.

Coming up 3/13 at 9:00am - Armita Jamshidi, Founder of Aunt Flo’s Kitchen, a company Run By Women, For Women. She is also a student at Cornell University, where she studies Women’s Health and Computer Science, as she builds Aunt Flo’s Kitchen.
