5/28/18 9:45am pst - Janeane spoke with the star of Diwa, Aina Dumlao, who also co-produced, co-wrote, co-directed and co-edited the film with her partner Bru Muller. Hear their inspiring conversation below!

LISTEN to today's conversation with Aina Dumlao and Bru Muller!

ABOUT THE FILM
“Diwa”, winner of the First Laurel Award of Chimaera Project’s 2018 “TO.GET.HER Program”, (written and directed by Aina Dumlao & Bru Muller), will screen at the 21st Annual Dances With Films at the TCL Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 5PM.

The narrative short film takes an unforgiving look at the real plight of immigrants victimized by violent crimes, and the obstacles they face, all told through the eyes of one female victim: Diwa, an undocumented immigrant from the Philippines who risked everything to come to America to help support her family back home.

Like countless others, Diwa is exploited and assaulted by her employer, then victimized a second time by a broken immigration system. Sadly, this is a true story many times over…

Star Aina Dumlao co- produced, co-wrote, co-directed and co-edited the film with her partner Bru Muller. Based on actual events from her family history, Aina recalls, “My uncle barely saw his own family for over thirty years, spending endless days laboring on cargo ships all over the world. And when his wife, my Aunt, was diagnosed with cancer and died six months later, he was out at sea, far from home, working to pay the mounting medical bills. He never even made it back to say goodbye…”

Dumlao and Bru Muller hope that the impact of “Diwa” will shine a light on how it feels to be a marginalized human being in today’s world.

LISTEN to today's conversation with Filmmaker R. H. Norman!

R. H. Norman will show his most recent narrative short film HAJJI at the 21st Annual Dances With Films at the TCL Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, Saturday, June 9th at 2:45PM.

Ross Marquand (The Walking Dead) plays a soldier in a reality-based conflict zone in HAJJI, an inspired-by-true-events short which explores the cycle of violence caused by modern warfare in the Middle East.

Written and directed by R.H. Norman, the story follows two soldiers, played by Marquand and actor Dayo Okeniyi (Hunger Games, Shades of Blue), and their interaction with a local family, which culminates in an unfortunate act of unspeakable violence. The film is produced by David Lawson Jr., a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and was drawn to the project by its unique perspective on war.

Norman, who was mentored by Werner Herzog and whose other short films include “Gusano” and “Mulberry”, is also known as a producer, editor, storyboard artist and colorist. “Hajji” also stars Maddie Rien, Ray Haratian (Argo), Dajan Ahmad, Bahara Golestani, and Rajeev Chhibber. In addition to producers Okeniyi, Marquand, Lawson, and Norman, the film was produced by Micheline Pitt, Sean McDaniel, Christopher Ely, Damir Omic, and John Thomas Schrad of ReKon Productions.

5/28/18 9:00am pst - Elizabeth Partridge, author of Boots on the Ground, called in to the KUCI studios!

About Boots on the Ground

LISTEN to today's conversation with Elizabeth Partridge!

★ “Partridge proves once again that nonfiction can be every bit as dramatic as the best fiction.”*

America’s war in Vietnam. In over a decade of bitter fighting, it claimed the lives of more than 58,000 American soldiers and beleaguered four US presidents. More than forty years after America left Vietnam in defeat in 1975, the war remains controversial and divisive both in the United States and abroad.

The history of this era is complex; the cultural impact extraordinary. But it’s the personal stories of eight people—six American soldiers, one American military nurse, and one Vietnamese refugee—that create the heartbeat of Boots on the Ground. From dense jungles and terrifying firefights to chaotic helicopter rescues and harrowing escapes, each individual experience reveals a different facet of the war and moves us forward in time. Alternating with these chapters are profiles of key American leaders and events, reminding us of all that was happening at home during the war, including peace protests, presidential scandals, and veterans’ struggles to acclimate to life after Vietnam.

With more than one hundred photographs, award-winning author Elizabeth Partridge’s unflinching book captures the intensity, frustration, and lasting impacts of one of the most tumultuous periods of American history.

TODAY 5/24/18 - Jennifer Dulski, Head of Facebook Groups and Community, called in to our KUCI studios to talk about how to start movements that matter!

LISTEN to today's conversation with Facebook's Head of Groups and Community, Jennifer Dulski!

Managers accept the world as it is; movement starters push the boundaries to make it more just, compassionate, and even joyful. We all need to decide: Are we managers or movement starters?

When Mark Zuckerberg changed the mission of Facebook this summer to be focused on community, he hired Jennifer Dulski to lead Groups, at the center of their new strategy, and used by more than one billion people to build meaningful communities around the world. With a career as a tech executive at Yahoo! and Google, a startup founder and CEO, and a social change leader as president of Change.org, Dulski is now combining her own experience with stories of other inspiring leaders to show how we all have the power to start movements that matter. In her new book, PURPOSEFUL, she walks through the steps to go from idea to impact and shares specific tips and stories from real movement starters -- from students to retirees -- whose movements have created everything from new laws to new companies.

Jennifer Dulski will discuss:

Movements and social change: From the Women’s March to the #MeToo movement to the recent resurgence in the fight for gun control in the aftermath of the Parkland shooting, people are rallying others around common purpose to achieve their goals.

Women in leadership: Jennifer has long been a leading woman in tech, she led one of the six business units at Yahoo!, she co-founded and served as CEO at The Dealmap, a location-based deals service, which she sold to Google in 2011, making her the first female entrepreneur to sell a company to Google. Over 75% of the individuals featured in the book are women, including: Amanda Nguyen, the founder and president of Rise, a national civil rights nonprofit dedicated to fighting for the rights of sexual assault victims; and Kara Goldin, founder of Hint Water.

Facebook movements taken offline: Surviving Hijab is a community for women to support each other around the decision to wear the hijab. The group was initially just for friends. But just two weeks after creator Manal Rostom started it, there were 40,000 members in the group and it has now grown to nearly 500,000. The group's members encourage each other to be active and proud of their hijab. The group has influenced Nike to create its first Pro Hijab, which TIME recently named as one of the best inventions of 2017.

Business practices: The most effective leaders are those that see themselves as movement starters, not only activists, but also entrepreneurs and business people. Jennifer shares tips for leaders in business on how to respond to pressure from changemakers -- whether it be your consumers or public sentiment.

In a time when our world needs change more than ever, Dulski shows how each of us can learn the leadership skills necessary to rally people around common propose, whether we are activists or entrepreneurs.

About the author:
Jennifer Dulski is the head of Facebook Groups and Community. She also has more than 15 years' experience in successful startups and big-brand internet companies, including Yahoo! and The Dealmap, which was acquired by Google in 2011, and was most recently president and COO of Change.org. Dulski writes about leadership, management and entrepreneurship for LinkedIn Influencers, Fortune, Huffington Post and other media outlets.

TODAY 5/23/18, Janeane spoke with Director Jon Kean. Jon Kean's film, After Auschwitz, is a "Post-Holocaust" documentary that follows six extraordinary women after their liberation from Nazi concentration camps, capturing what it means to move from tragedy and trauma towards life.

LISTEN to today's conversation with Director Jon Kean!

Directed by Jon Kean
Jon Kean's After Auschwitz, is a "Post-Holocaust" documentary that follows six extraordinary women after their liberation from Nazi concentration camps, capturing what it means to move from tragedy and trauma towards life.

Screenings are taking place in Long Beach and Los Angeles.

The film is receiving extremely positive reviews and interest:

NY Times: link
Washington Post: link
Deadline: link

In After Auschwitz, filmmaker Jon Kean examines the question, "What happens after surviving an unspeakable horror?" with six stories of remarkable women who survived the Holocaust and went on to build lives in the United States, but never truly found a place to call home. For survivors of the Holocaust, liberation was both an incredible moment and a devastating one. It marked the beginning of a life-long struggle. Most wanted to go home, but there was no home left in devastated post-war Europe. Many came to America and wanted to tell people about their experiences, but were silenced. "You're in America now, put it behind you" is what they were told. The women Kean follows became mothers and wives with successful careers, but never fully healed from the scars of the past.

Their stories show the indelible role immigrants and women played in the history of America during the second half of the 20th century, and they serve as our guides on an unbelievable journey - sometimes celebratory, sometimes heart-breaking, but always inspiring.

According to a recent NY Times article (https://nyti.ms/2ERVI6b), the Holocaust is fast fading from memory. Many people lack both basic and detailed knowledge of what happened, including the actual number of people who perished. In addition, more than half Americans believe the Holocaust could happen again. With these troubling new findings, it’s more critical than ever to ensure that people remain aware and educated about the Holocaust - a lifework to which all the women inAfter Auschwitz dedicated their lives.
After Auschwitz is written, produced and directed by Jon Kean (Kill The Man; Swimming in Auschwitz) and executive produced by Oscar and Emmy-winning Michael Berenbaum (One Survivor Remembers; The Desperate Hours). David Charles and Marilyn Harran serve as co-producers.

TODAY (5/21/18) - Christine Dimmick, a sought-after wellness expert, speaking regularly at places such as Canyon Ranch and The JCC Manhattan. She is the founder and CEO of The Good Home Company Inc.

LISTEN to today's conversation with Christine Dimmick!

Christine has spent more than two decades focusing on non-toxic healthy home products. After Christine survived cancer (and her husband was diagnosed, and two friends passed away from it...), she looked into removing from her environment the many harmful chemicals that are in everyday products and may have effected her diagnosis. Often times even the government has not approved the use of these chemicals, and yet no laws specify that they cannot be used....so here they are, working their way into our detergents, sprays, beauty products, and more. Her new book, Detox Your Home, comes out this April (Rowman & Littlefield). It explores and explains the labels that inform our purchasing decisions and the regulations that govern what consumer goods are available in our shops and supermarkets.

Cancer affects 1 in 2 persons, and nearly everyone has an autoimmune-related disease or allergy. We live in a world where the incidence of illness grows as fast as the GDP. Industrialization has created a world that puts products before human and environmental health. Exercise and eating right is not enough. In this rapidly growing world, our resources are depleting along with our health and the public sees and feels this daily.

Health and Wellness speaker, advocate and Good Home Company Founder, Christine Dimmick, takes a deep dive into the toxins found in our very own homes, and how you can limit your exposure and take control of your own health. Detox Your Home addresses all of these issues – from clothing to food to the cleaning products used every day in homes just like yours. Dimmick unveils what manufacturers won’t, so you can avoid exposing yourself and your family to the hidden toxins eating away at America’s health and wellness. Detox Your Home is the essential go-to book for how to live a life of wellness, and will show you how to improve – in every part of your life.

From food, water, and kitchen goods, to personal care and cleaning products— even clothing and common household items like phones, furniture, and children’s toys— Dimmick uses the most recent scientific evidence to expose the harmful toxins lurking in our most intimate, everyday environments.

Detox Your Home: A Guide to Removing Toxins from Your Life and Bringing Health Into Your Home explores how to improve health by empowering choices about our clothing, food, cleaning products and more.

Dimmick unveils what manufacturers won’t, so you can avoid

The Ever Curious Gardener
Using a Little Natural Science for a Much Better Garden

Why the dead language of Latin can make you a better gardener.

The Ever Curious Gardener is an irreverent romp through the natural science of plants and soil, ideal for newer gardeners moving beyond back-of-the-seed-pack planting to experienced gardeners whose curiosity at the wonders of cultivation grows deeper and stronger with each season.

Lee Reich PhD, dove into gardening decades ago, initially with one foot in academia as an agricultural scientist with the USDA and then Cornell University, and one foot in the field, the organic field. He eventually expanded his field to a "farmden" (more than a garden, less than a farm) and left academia to lecture, consult, and write. He is author of many books including Weedless Gardening, The Pruning Book, and Landscaping with Fruit, as well as a syndicated column for Associated Press. In addition to providing a year-round supply of fruits and vegetables, the farmden has an educational mission and is a test site for innovative growing techniques. Science and an appreciation of natural systems underpin his work, and Lee's goal is to get more people to grow more food sustainably and organically. He has a PhD in Horticulture from the University of Maryland, an MS in Soil Science, and a BA in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. He blogs at www.leereich.com/blog from his farmden in New Paltz, NY.

Advance Praise for Mayfly

“There’s an almost mythological quality to this tale, as the resourceful protagonists maneuver through a barely recognizable landscape, with modern culture filtered through generations of oral history and misinterpretation, and debut novelist Sweat does an admirable job of maintaining the tense atmosphere and underlying desperation.” ―Publishers Weekly

In a world where everyone dies at 17, survival is of the utmost importance, love is an afterthought, and producing enough children to keep civilization alive is of the utmost importance. The novel reads a bit like a blend of "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Divergent" set in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles.

"Mayfly" received a fantastic review from "Publishers Weekly": “There’s an almost mythological quality to this tale, as the resourceful protagonists maneuver through a barely recognizable landscape, with modern culture filtered through generations of oral history and misinterpretation, and debut novelist Sweat does an admirable job of maintaining the tense atmosphere and underlying desperation.”

5/18/18 - Priya Parker, Founder of Thrive Labs, joined Janeane on KUCI 88.9fm discusses the Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters - A bold new approach to how we gather that will transform the ways we spend our time together--at work, at home, in our communities, and beyond.

5/17/18 Great conversation with @priyaparker calling into our @kuciFM studios! Author, THE ART OF GATHERING: HOW WE MEET & WHY IT MATTERS from @RiverheadBooks #TheArtofGathering • founder http://ThriveLabs.co • 15Toasts • Mrs. @AnandWrites

LISTEN to our conversation!

We gather every day – at home, work, school, in our communities – and yet we spend very little time thinking about why and how we come together. We focus on logistics, but not the meaning and power behind the details. We make guest lists without first committing to a purpose that would make our meetings matter. We say our time is precious, yet we spend our days in gatherings that fail to captivate us. Why should we care? Because how we come together defines how we connect to each other as friends, colleagues, neighbors, and citizens. Gatherings shape how we understand, make sense of, and act in the world.

Priya Parker, founder of Thrive Labs, has worked across the globe to help individuals and organizations create transformative gatherings. In her book, THE ART OF GATHERING: How We Meet and Why It Matters, she draws on her expertise and takes us inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn't, and why. She investigates a wide array of gatherings--conferences, meetings, a courtroom, a flash-mob party, an Arab-Israeli summer camp--and explains how simple, specific changes can invigorate any group experience.

Priya Parker discusses:

· How gatherings in our lives are traditionally lackluster and unproductive

· How we rely too much on routine and the conventions of gathering…when we should be focusing on distinctiveness and the people involved

· Why gatherings affect business deals (like Lucent-Alcatel), create worldwide phenomenon (like Diner en Blanc), and can dramatically alter the outcome of meetings (like the New York Times Page One gathering).

· Her work at Thrive Labs -- which helps activists, elected officials, corporate execs, educators and philanthropists create transformative gatherings – and how we can apply these same principles in our own lives.

THE ART OF GATHERING opens up our thinking about gatherings to all the questions we haven’t thought to ask: questions that are essential for us to come together to affect change and create lasting connections, and to make our gatherings more enjoyable, remarkable, and worthy of our time. It will forever alter the way you look at your next meeting, industry conference, dinner party, and backyard barbecue--and how you host and attend them.

About the Author:

Priya Parker is the founder of Thrive Labs, at which she helps activists, elected officials, corporate executives, educators, and philanthropists create transformative gatherings. Trained in the field of conflict resolution, Parker has worked on race relations on American college campuses and on peace processes in the Arab world, southern Africa, and India. She studied organizational design at M.I.T., public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, and political and social thought at the University of Virginia. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Jenny Milchman is a Mary Higgins Clark Award winner as well as the recipient of two Indie Picks, and the founder and organizer of Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day, which is celebrated in all fifty states.

Her new book Wicked River launches May 1 from Sourcebooks and is a "thinking woman's thriller." In the book, a honeymooning couple canoeing and camping in the Adirondacks finds more than marital bliss.... rather, obsession, murder, and a race against time keep thrills (and chills) on readers' minds!

She will discuss:

>Her own camping snafus and honeymoon averted crisis (spoiler alert, she went to Paris instead)

>Being on the "longest book tour" in the country

>Touring with her husband and two kiddos

>Take Your Child to A Bookstore Day

>Writing romance in a thriller setting

>Working with International Thriller Writers in a leadership position

>Changing publishers and her own path to publishing story

The incredible NYT bestselling Lee Child has raved about Jenny's work from the beginning, saying of her first book, “everything a great suspense novel should be,” and of her second, “Milchman writes very human, but very uncompromising stories which appeal to both poles of the genre successfully and simultaneously...she has a lot of talent. It’s a complete mystery to me why she’s not already huge.” Now of this new book, “Milchman is the Swiss Army knife of thriller writers. A Venn diagram of potential readers would start from all corners of the genre - Harlan Coben’s fans, C J Box’s. Stephen King’s (in certain modes), as well as many resourceful-women-in-trouble writers.”

ABOUT
Newlyweds planning their dream honeymoon think of going on a romantic getaway or an island retreat —certainly not backpacking six million acres of Adirondack forest.

In Jenny Milchman’s atmospheric psychological thriller, WICKED RIVER (May 1, 2018; ISBN: 9781492658993), two newlyweds embark on a backcountry honeymoon in the wild Adirondack Mountains. What begins as an idyllic journey soon turns into a deadly obstacle course forcing them to hike through the vast
wilderness. Without a map or supplies, their chances of survival are grim, but their true danger comes from someone determined to make sure that the newlyweds never leave the forest again.

As they face the worst the wilderness has to offer, secrets surface, and the newlyweds begin to discover the worst inside themselves.

From the winner of the Mary Higgins Clark Award, WICKED RIVER is a taut tale of survival, human nature, and the lengths a couple will go to stay alive.

5/9 9:30am pst - filmmaker Dominic Gill and writer/producer Nadia Gill joined me to talk about their inspiring, emotional film Coming to my Senses, featuring Aaron Baker.

LISTEN to today's conversation
with Dominic Gill and writer/producer Nadia Gill!

In 1999 Aaron Baker broke his neck in a motocross accident, leaving him completely paralyzed from the neck down. Despite doctor's grim prognosis, over the next 16 years Aaron decided not to listen to those who said 'he had a million-to-one odds of ever feeding himself again' and instead, through painstaking effort, endeavored to regain as much mobility as possible. This journey through the unknown took him from the depths of depression to the joys of cross country road tripping via tandem bicycle with his mother and friends, and finally, culminating in his opening a socially conscious low-cost gym focused on increasing mobility for the disabled.

Now, in COMING TO MY SENSES, we watch as Aaron takes one final journey which symbolizes his recovery: crossing a 20-mile tract of Death Valley unsupported on foot. But will he make it?

COMING TO MY SENSES will be available on EST platforms May 15, with VOD on May 22 . The feature length documentary won the Audience award at the Austin Film Festival and Best Documentary at Red Rock Film Festival, has played at the Miami Film Festival, Mammoth Film Festival, and will screen at the Newport Beach Film Festival later this month. Directed by Dominic Gill and produced by Nadia Gill, editing is by Dominic Gill and Nick Andert. Julian Cautherley executive produces and original music is by Cody Westheimer. Irvine, Calif., Dec. 21, 2017 — Distinguished legal scholar and teacher L. Song Richardson is the next dean of the University of California, Irvine School of Law, effective Jan. 1, 2018, becoming the only woman of color to serve in this role among U.S. News & World Report’s top 30 law schools.

“Song Richardson is a brilliant scholar and inspirational leader, and we are excited that she will become the second dean of UCI Law,” said Chancellor Howard Gillman. “She is the perfect person to work with our great faculty, students, staff and community partners to accelerate the law school’s ascendancy as one of the country’s most important and influential institutions of legal education.”

UCI Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Enrique Lavernia said that Richardson was selected after a nationwide search following the departure of founding dean Erwin Chemerinsky in May.

“We’re proud and pleased to find the ideal candidate within our campus,” Lavernia said. “The law school is lucky to be able to draw on the energy, brilliance and leadership of Dean Richardson, especially during this time of change in the nation and in legal education. I am grateful to the search committee and its chair, Professor Bryant Garth, for their thoughtful work in helping us select such an exemplary new dean.”

Gary Singer, senior vice president and general counsel of RSI Holding and a UCI Foundation trustee, said that “Song Richardson is the perfect person to take UCI Law into its new era. The greater community will benefit from her expertise and dedication to public service – which is at the very core of UCI Law’s mission – and her inspirational leadership will continue to inspire future generations of attorneys.”

The UCI School of Law is the first public law school in California in nearly 50 years, opening its doors to the initial class in fall 2009. In the short time since then, it has become one of the top law schools in the country, ranked No. 28 overall by U.S. News & World Report, 10th among public universities. UCI Law faculty members are accomplished thought leaders from around the country with a broad range of expertise. Committed to public service, students served more than 60,000 hours of clinic, pro bono and externship work in the past academic year, and upon graduation, they are in demand for large, medium and small law firm employment and public interest legal positions locally and nationally.

“UCI Law is extraordinary,” Richardson said. “It’s rare to find an elite law school with a world-class faculty that excels at both teaching and scholarship, a creative and multidisciplinary approach to legal education, and a commitment to creating and disseminating knowledge that improves lives and communities around the world. I am passionate about redefining, reinventing and reimagining the future of legal education with the faculty, students and dedicated supporters of UCI Law.”

5/4/18 @9:00am - Author Chris McGoff discusses his latest book, Match in the Root Cellar

Chris McGoff, author and business owner focuses on teaching leaders to create peak performance cultures in their companies. For example, at the World Bank he helped the organization create a new formula for aid allocation that minimized the problem of corruption and renewed the World Bank’s power to address global poverty.

Chris McGoff's first book, The PRIMES, was a Washington Post bestseller with other accolades as well - you can see that info here. His second book, Match in the Root Cellar (Forbes, February 6, 2018) shares how executives can make their work places of shared intention, focus, and passion.... all steps toward "peak performance culture."

In an interview Chris will discuss:

Chris' unusual "business fiction" blended book genre

His experiences working to consult with influential leading organizations such as the UN, Boeing, IBM, AARP and more.

How to understand what is limiting peak performance, and what to do about it

How to ensure that the critical people are focused on the fewest, most important issues (and not stretched thin across too many matters of little import)

What is at stake if a group's culture is not shaped positively

The 7 key pillars that lead to peak performance culture

Chris McGoff has found tremendous success via his methods as co-founder of The Clearing, Inc. a Washington, D.C.-based management consulting firm. His client list includes many U.S. Federal Government agencies, IBM, AARP, Consol Energy, Benesch, Coffman Engineers, Harris, Lazard, the American Petroleum Institute, SalientCRGT, DuPont, the United Nations, and Boeing.

You can see his TEDx talk to see how personable and dynamic Chris is!

ABOUT CHRIS' LATEST BOOK
Match In The Root Cellar: How You Can Spark A Peak Performance Culture

After successfully leading her company through a transition as interim CEO,
Carolyn earns her appointment as permanent CEO of Phossium. Although she is
excited, Carolyn quickly realizes something’s wrong.

Early on, Carolyn recognizes a problem at the company―a very serious problem
that threatens its growth and profitability. Carolyn identifies the problem as
default culture―the complacency and discontent you’re left with when you stop
intentionally generating a positive culture.

But changing the company culture isn’t easy, especially when employees, senior
leaders, and even a board member push back. Taking it upon herself to spark
change, Carolyn looks to enlist the help of anyone willing to help build a peak
performance culture.

Together with other dissidents of the status quo, Carolyn has to find a way to change
the company culture from “default” to “peak performance”―no small feat.

In his book Match in the Root Cellar, Chris McGoff―culture guru and bestselling
author of The PRIMES―allows you to journey along with Carolyn, a composite
character based on real-life people, to learn and see how it’s up to everyone
to work through the struggles and find a way to redefine company culture and
achieve peak performance.

By the end of Carolyn’s story, you will be equipped to break down that default
culture and build a culture of peak performance!

Match in the Root Cellar is unlike any other business book I have worked with:

It is a business book that uses a fictional account of a female CEO and her experience taking on her dream job (and realizing that an entire company culture needs to change!)
It is beautifully illustrated
The non-fiction segments are in the back of the book but address the concepts outlined throughout the written narrative

Chris will discuss how to spark a peak performance culture via:

Actionable principles and tools that can transform work cultures and produce extraordinary results
Recognizing, decoding and leveraging the principles and behaviors that shape your organization's culture
How to discover and reallocate resources away from low and non-value added activity
How organizations can increase growth, refine strategy, enhance customer focus, increase collaboration, enrich communication, reduce fragmentation, decide future courses of action, and resolve outstanding issues!

In the book, Chris McGoff illustrates how work cultures can be toxic to productivity, or the foundation for thriving businesses. His character Carolyn must learn to work with the many departments and their heads in her tenure as a new CEO, her dream job. This is part of what makes this book so unique--a fictional component that demonstrates the values Chris teaches makes this business book engaging and warm. Beautiful illustrations are interspersed throughout this section as well, which are later echoed in the diagrams in the non-fiction component of the book that directly addresses peak performance culture, and how to achieve it.

Monday 5/7/18, Ian Bremmer, President and Founder of Eurasia Group and GZERO Media, Editor-at-Large and Global Affairs Columnist for TIME and was recently named LinkedIn’s Top Influencer of 2017. He is the author of nine books

LISTEN to today's conversation with Ian Bremmer.

Ian Bremmer is the president and founder of Eurasia Group, the leading global political risk research and consulting firm. He is a prolific thought leader and author, regularly expressing his views on political issues in public speeches, television appearances, and top publications, including Time magazine, where he is the foreign affairs columnist and editor-at-large. Once dubbed the “rising guru” in the field of political risk by The Economist, he teaches classes on the discipline as a professor at New York University. His latest book "Us vs. Them: The Failure of Globalism" is a New York Times bestseller.

In 1998, Ian established Eurasia Group with just $25,000. Today, the company has offices in New York, Washington, San Francisco, London, Sao Paulo, Singapore, and Tokyo, as well as a network of experts and resources in 90 countries. As the firm's president and most active public voice, Ian advises leading executives, money managers, diplomats, and heads of state.

Ian is credited with bringing the craft of political risk to financial markets—he created Wall Street's first global political risk index (GPRI)—and for establishing political risk as an academic discipline. His definition of emerging markets—“those countries where politics matters at least as much as economics for market outcomes”—has become an industry standard. “G-Zero,” his term for a global power vacuum in which no country is willing and able to set the international agenda, is widely accepted by policymakers and thought leaders.

In 2007, Ian was named a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, where he is the founding chairman of the Global Agenda Council on Geopolitical Risk. He is the Harold J. Newman Distinguished Fellow in Geopolitics at the Asia Society Policy Institute and serves on the President's Council of the Near East Foundation, the Leadership Council for Concordia, and the Board of Trustees of Intelligence Squared.

Ian earned a master's degree and a doctorate in political science from Stanford University, where he went on to become the youngest-ever national fellow at the Hoover Institution. He received his bachelor's degree in international relations from Tulane University.

Ian has published nine books including the national bestsellers “Every Nation for Itself: Winners and Losers in a G-Zero World”, “The End of the Free Market: Who Wins the War Between States and Corporations?”, and "Superpower: Three Choices for America's Role in the World."

“My favorite thinker on geopolitics offers a masterful analysis of why globalism crashed and populism has soared. This book won’t just help you predict the future of nations; it will play a role in shaping that future.”

—Adam Grant, author of Give and Take, Originals, and Option B with Sheryl Sandberg

In recent years, the political establishments in country after country have faced extraordinary pressure from a wave of popular anger against governments that have failed to protect citizens from profoundly disruptive changes. In US VS. THEM: The Failure of Globalism, bestselling author Ian Bremmer unveils what’s next in a world defined by political unrest and unpredictability. Bremmer has built his career on assessing global risk and explaining political trends. Now, he explores the downsides of globalism, the struggle between the insider and the outsider, between governments and citizens, and the fear that has generated drastic geopolitical shifts. In a world increasingly divided by political, economic, cultural, and technological changes, US VS. THEM is about the coming conflict between the citizen and the state.

Ian Bremmer can answer the following questions:

· What are some of the top risks you see for Americans in the year ahead?
· What can Americans learn from what’s happening in Europe and South America?

· Do you think America is on a trajectory of things getting easier or worse? Is that solely attributed to President Trump’s choices while in office?

· What do you recommend to change the trajectory America is currently on? Is it doomed?

· If Americans are unhappy with their safety, healthcare and economic well-being, doesn’t that mean it’s time for a change?

· Can you attribute the difference between populism and globalism to the differences between democrats and republicans?

· You say governments that want to exercise tighter control of their constituents will respond by building walls, but not just physical ones. What do you mean?

The forces that drive populism are not to be underestimated. Bremmer makes the case for getting ahead of these trends rather than ignoring them or leaving them to political leaders who still don’t recognize their power. US VS. THEM is the story of a battle for control of the future, but it’s also one that can inspire citizens, political officials, and the private sector to work toward solutions that reimagine the social contracts that bind us together.
